Multisectoral Consultations on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in BiH

Two-days long multisectoral consultations on the Sustainable Development Goals in BiH were held in the Hotel Hills Sarajevo from 29 to 30 May 2018. The workshop gathered around 250 participants, including representatives of the public sector from all government levels in BiH, as well as representatives of the civil sector.

On the occasion, the principles of Agenda 2030 were presented - universality, integrity and no one left behind, the key remarks from policy analysis (RIA), dashboard analysis and complexity analysis were presented. The purpose of these tools and their content is briefly outlined.

Presented was also the Imagine 2030 concept – organization of over 70 workshops with a total of 1200 participants across BiH while using an interactive game on the theme of SDG. Key trends and challenges that the country faces today and can face in the future were outlined during the workshops. One of the examples was the migration problem with a coefficient of 8.9, which means that for almost every person entering BiH almost nine people leave the country. Participants were divided into four thematic groups (people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership) and then within groups in subgroups of a maximum 10 participants.

The task of each subgroup was to create a vision for Bosnia and Herzegovina for delegated topic, taking into account the goals that pertain. Three opportunities and constrains were defined for each topic. Another important task was to look at opportunities and constraints through the prism of one of the main principles of Agenda 2030 (no one left behind) to see whether there is a gap.

Finally, representatives of each topic group presented the conclusions. All representatives were nominated from Bosnia and Herzegovina, institutions responsible for coordination of the implementation of sustainable development goals, whereby the representative of the Federal Institute for Programming Development was in charge of facilitation of the first thematic area, a representative of the Directorate for Economic Planning of another thematic area, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH for the third one, and representatives from RS and BD for the fourth thematic area.
